All About the Phone: Smartphones Impact on the User and Peers – Carli Ochs

Smartphones have many undeniable benefits. Yet, there is much concern regarding the potential negative side effects of smartphones (e.g., distracted driving, poor time management, reduced social contacts). This presentation will explore the negative effects of smartphone use on its users, as well as on others. For example, on the smartphone user’s interaction partners or simply on someone sharing a space with the user. In addition, I will discuss existing and possible future interventions related to smartphone non-use (e.g., setting a screen time limit) in light of new evidence on triggers that lead to smartphone use.
